Week 13. Well I found out this week that I definitely need work on becoming a more effective peer responder. Once I read this assignment I felt like I had let my group members down. It has always been my policy not to try and change someone’s work but if I saw a typo or mechanical error I would let him or her know. I haven’t been dishonest with them about their work because I don’t know their thoughts when they were developing their projects. So I have always felt you just leave other people’s work alone and let them shape to their satisfaction. Well because of this philosophy, I did a poor job at peer responding. If I were choosing teams I’d be the last player I’d choose.

Oh well. Worked on linking my genres together on Thursday night. I used the codes Ms. McComas supplied me and they look really good. It took quite a bit of time because it was easy to get lost in the maze of codes. Once I got that sorted out I found out that some of my previous: pages referred to the genre I was working on. Just a small flaw that I had to work out. Now you can move from the home page of my genre to the reference page, which is the end. I am curious about whether I should include links in my unifying genre to the other genre. I have made reference of them in the 7th genre but I didn’t include hyperlinks.

Aims/objectives: Ask Ms. McComas if my 7th genre is supposed to have hyperlinks to the other 6 genres. If so then I will need to take care of that. I also need to revise my brochure to include citations. I did have references listed on the cover but Ms. McComas feels they are needed within the text. Sounds like enough work to keep me busy for quite a while. Looking forward to last day of semester.

Week 12. Just finished typing and posting my preface, acknowledgements, and about the author assignments. This created a lot of deep thinking and reflecting on my part. Before this class I rarely did any writing except for class notes and cards and now it seems like I never stop. I know that sounds negative but its not meant to be. Its improved me and I definitely need it. I know that sounds so judgmental but not really. It’s a fact. I was talking to Ms. McComas the other day and mentioned even when I’m on the right track I get lead astray by other students who have better grades than I have. I do this because I have no confidence in my abilities. Ms. McComas is a great motivator and I am going to work on not being so critical about my work and work on boosting my self-confidence. I have learned that I do know some things and its better to get it wrong on what I believe than to listen to someone else and still get it wrong. Somewhere all this educational highway I lost what little confidence I had but now I’m determined to get it back. I can see low self-esteem as damaging my future and I’ve worked too hard to let that happen.

Oh well its 6:00 and I’m taking the night off. Anthony and I are going to the movies to see Santa Claus 2. He’s hoping this will put scrooge (me) in the Christmas spirit. I’m worn to a frazzle and still have four weeks of school left. Yikes!

Aims/objectives: Find out how to structure my MRP so that each genre leads to the next. I’ve looked at the summer class for ideas. Get up with Ms. McComas for direction.

Week 11 is over. Wednesday night in the meeting with Dr. Chezik I learned we have around 20 more school days. Part of me says, “I don’t know how it went by so fast.” And the other part is getting “testy” and “grumpy.” I guess we all get like this towards the end of the semester as all the stress finally catches up. At least that’s how I feel. Cd 315 has been a challenging class and it’s kept me on my toes. You can’t slack in this class because if you do you’ll be overwhelmed in a hurry and over your head.

I just finished doing my reference list which didn’t take long because I kept all my references in a list and handy.

Finished my seventh genre at school Wednesday during my break between classes. I have asked Ms. McComas to review this one and my fifth genre. I asked her to review these because they took me the longest to complete and each time I look at them I want to change something else. Also, Ms. McComas’ a computer whiz and I definitely want her opinion on my PowerPoint presentation. She’s always got helpful ideas. I have never written a script before either so I’m not sure if I did it right. Need input here.

My seventh genre is really long and Cindy and Allison are probably going to kill me afterwards. But once I started typing I couldn’t stop and that’s why I had to go to the library and finish up on Wednesday. I worked really hard on this one and hope it’s acceptable. I really liked creating a script for a support group meeting. I feel so close to my fictional characters, I wonder if professional writers feel this way about characters in their books. It’s like I actually created people with thoughts and feelings. A definite first for me. Its not great, fabulous or anything like that but I did my very best.

Before doing my unifying genre I got so hung up in thinking about how my seventh genre was going to tie all my other genres together but I have seen the light at the end of the tunnel and am mighty glad to be there.

Aims/objectives: Start on Week 12 assignments. I feel like the “Little engine that could.” I’m going up hill, “I think I can, I think I can.” Hopefully in a couple of weeks “I’ll know I can, I’ll know I can.”
