WEEK 10 ON-LINE JOURNAL A3.3.3 11-1-02

Week 10 is over. Monday we’ll start on week 11 assignments and my seventh and final genre. I can’t believe it. I have spent a lot of time on my fifth genre (PowerPoint presentation). Its like I have become obsessed with it. I guess because its on the web for everyone to look at I want it to be perfect even though I know there is no such thing. I have uploaded the “revised version” to my files around four times now. So I’ve decided to stop looking at it because every time I do I find something that I want to change. “SOMEBODY STOP ME, PLEASE.” Well I’ve spent quite a bit of time and preparation on my sixth genre. I couldn’t decide whether I wanted to do a newsletter, doctor referral, or e-mail. I finally decided upon the e-mail and not because it was easier cause it wasn’t, but because I needed something in a family member’s voice. Sure I could have done a newsletter but I don’t think my character would have liked his wife “Wanda Mae” announcing to the world about his swallowing disorder. Doctor referral was out because as I said before I needed a family members voice and I already have my professional voice in my brochure. I changed the dates that were in genre 3 journal entries because it seemed more practical to have Herbert in the 2nd month of recovery rather than the 9th. This way since it has been so soon after the stroke Herbert and Wanda Mae are more likely to have coping and adjustment problems. Within 9 months they should be getting a handle on it so I decided to go with 2. Aim/objectives for the week: I have already reviewed Allison and Cindy’s 5th genre so I’m ready for number 6. I always try to keep my work ahead because of all my other classes and I know once I slip it could be downhill from there. Start thinking about genre 7 and writing my script for the support group meeting. I hope its okay to be funny because that’s the best way for me to deal with an uncomfortable situation. Key phrases for the upcoming week: “BE THE SPONGE” AND “I AM THE SPONGE”. Geneva:) ... Link
JOURNAL WEEK 9 A 3.2.3

Wow week 9 is over. I can’t believe how fast this semester is going. Its kinda of scary in a way because I know we still have so much more work to do and I’m wondering when I’m gonna find the time to finish everything and not just finish it but do a really good and through job of it. The moo worked out for me. I got some ideas of how we are going to finally tie everything together. I had already decided on my unifying genre before the meeting. I had talked to Ms. McComas about Herbert and his wife attending a support group and she suggested that I write a script for this. I feel like I can tie my webliography page in by having Herbert say his granddaughter surfed the web and stumbled upon a CD student’s info regarding dysphagia. The brochure will be something that’s given to Herbert by his SLP and the PowerPoint presentation is something that will be shown at the support group meeting. Then there’s Herbert’s personal journal entries. Worked on my PowerPoint presentation Friday after my CD 424 test. Probably not a good day for this but I didn’t want to drive back to Huntington on Saturday. It just didn’t make good sense as I was already here. But Friday was definitely a long and scary day. I had already written my rough draft actually I spent about a week writing and rewriting and rewriting some more on my presentation. So I would have everything together for Friday. It was almost 6:00 before I got finished actually 5 minutes before. I put a lot of thought and hard work into it but after I got home I looked at it and immediately saw things that I needed and wanted to change. I think I’ll stop by Ms. McComas’ office next week for some handy dandy tips. I almost got locked in the library because after I finished I stopped to use the restroom and when I came out the lights were off in the library and I started to panic. I was thinking I had been locked in but luckily they were at the door still waiting for people to leave. Whew was I scared. I was thinking “WHAT A TERRIBLE DAY” and how was I going to explain this to the police or whomever I had to call to come and let me out. Aims and Objectives: I am thinking about writing my script for the support group meeting. I am also thinking about my sixth genre. I have a couple of ideas for that one. Either a referral letter from a doctor to the SLP or e-mail exchanges. I decided against the newsletter since I already did the brochure. I would like to do something a little different. What a week. Oh well bring on week 10 cause I’m still the sponge. But the only problem with this is it doesn’t always go to my brain. My test scores will prove this. Geneva:) ... Link
JOURNAL WEEK # 8 ASSIGNMENT 3.1.3

04:12h
Week 8 I can’t believe it. Sometimes it seems like the semester has flown by and then there are others that I think “will it ever end.” Over all I would say this has been a good semester. Working on my brochure has been a learning experience. I have learned that not all font transfers with clarity. I began drafting my brochure genre on Wednesday night and then I was ready to begin the design on Thursday. I worked on my design until 1:00 a.m Friday morning. Got in the bed around 1:30 good thing my Friday classes are late classes. First time I posted it, my brochure was turned so that it would print out in a tri-fold design. Well that’s great if you are actually printing it out but when I copied it over to windows and then into antville you had to turn your head at an angle to read it. That’s a killer (literally if you want a bad neck). I also had problems getting my link to work maybe it was because I was exhausted by then and I am no good when I’m that tired. Friday morning I printed off instructions from Ms. McComas and that worked but I didn’t have time to really look over my brochure in antville. Saturday afternoon I checked my brochure and realized “I can’t read it.” Great and wonderful I thought I should never do anything in a hurry. Allison also had commented the same thing “I can’t read it.” So I went back to my original project and worked on changing the font type and this took some time. I ended up with the bold comic sans as it showed up better than anything else. So as I wrote in my comment section “Third time’s a charm” which seems to be true for me. Sometime I wonder why I always seem to make everything so hard for myself or is it that I’m just lucky. Enough of my pity party. I’m just so….relieved that I finally got it right. I don’t understand, anytime I do something for one of my CD classes I work twice as hard compared to all my other classes and hardly ever get it right the first or second time. Maybe I’m trying to hard, I don’t know. Aim and objectives: begin making a rough draft of my powerpoint presentation. I’m thinking about including some info about taste buds/brain connection if I can find anything. I plan on finishing my journal and hopefully reviewing Cindy’s genre and I’ll be finished for week 8 and ready to being week 9. Geneva:) ... Link |
